I think all young people can relate to this book and learn something. He proved that he could stand up under pressure and in spite of the severe emotional strain he must have been under, he was able to pull it out. I Loved the plot of the story because it was realistic and their was no story book ending. The third book in the Hazelwood trilogy, Darkness Before Dawn, was written to answer all the questions I received about what happened to the characters in the first two books. . It touches and makes the reader know exactly how they felt and it's a huge thing for teenagers to not drink and drive and also not to commit sudicide because there's people who care about you Tears of a Tiger by Sharon Draper was a fabulos book.
I couldn't relate to the characters, the writing style wasn't my type, etc etc. To conclude, this is a very good book and I would recommend it to all teenagers to read. When Andy committed suicide, it devastated his little brother Monty, his mother, and his ex-girlfriend Keshia. What are your immediate thoughts about this book and the message you tried to evoke? Basically, I left the book mad at every character. I also didn't love the style of interviews, essays, newspaper articles, etc. It also was an easy book to relate to because it deals with the normal things of a teenager living in violent Philadelphia. That sweet little Donna Correlli was booed off the stage when she tried to sing opera.
Andy throughout the book feels that it should have been himself that was killed in the accident and not Ron because Ron was the one who had everything going for him and was. Don't forget the human relations committee meeting tonight after school. It was written from the point of view of an African American teenager who is perceived as a bad kid who talked using mostly slang. The next day a news letter was written about the big car crash. Tears Of A Tiger, teaches many heart felt lessons about life after death. So those two books meet in the middle as companion books.
I hope I'm not the only one that has noticed this eighth grade reading trend. Why is a high school a good location to discuss serious teenage issues? He does a lot to try to help him self but he just can not. J, and Tyrone were the passengers. High school is filled with misunderstood teens, drinking, crushes, and death; we may not experience all of these things, but we are all affected by them. Do you like it any better since you moved? The tears will come down before you notice it and a heart wrenching plot makes reading worthwhile.
From the very beginning it had me hooked. Most reprints use different fonts and different size paper. This book was great about conveying the thoughts and feelings of not only a person with depression, but the feelings and thoughts of friends of people suffering with this devastating illness. Andy started getting professional help, but even that did not do the job. J jumped out of the car and helped Andy jump out too. It doesn't belong with a room full of people who can't even begin to form an understanding of hating oneself or one's life so much they are willing to end it.
Why is personal observation not always fair and unbiased? The novel begins with a brief newspaper article about a fiery automobile accident in which one Hazelwood High student, Robert Washington, was killed. They even made him go to a psychologist. Forgive us, but we do not have other texts. Jackson, who police said had been drinking, was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital, where he is being treated for burns and bruises. Another great part of the book, is that it does focus on African American students, which is rarely done in a book like this, at least from what I have perceived. They are already intrigued by the cover and the fact that basketball is involved in some way.
Later that night, the car they're driving crashes. This shows their emotions and how they feel about different situations that happens. All of Andy's friends were there for him and there is a little bit of romance, but not a lot. Therefore you are hearing an unfiltered, unadulterated rant from a 13 year-old girl, in the flesh. Forged by Fire seems to come before Tears of a Tiger because it begins when Gerald is just three years old. If you like books that you can predict I would also recommend this to you.
Rob was dead at the scene. But what really got me was how incredibly racist this book was. Use examples from the book to support your statements. Sometimes life becomes too hard to handle and we as humans forget that we were put on this earth for a reason and we need time to figure that reason out.
